How the system is built
- Mesh sized to purpose
- Bird exclusion, child safety and debris containment need different apertures, so mesh is chosen per application rather than stocked as one size.
- UV-stabilised twine
- Stabiliser is compounded into the polymer, not coated on, which is what determines whether a net lasts years or months in direct sun.
- Bordered perimeter rope
- A heavier rope is stitched around the edge to carry load into the anchors instead of tearing at the outermost mesh row.
- Tensioned on stainless anchorage
- Eye bolts and turnbuckles let the net be drawn taut and re-tensioned later without refitting the whole panel.

- The standard residential job: an open balcony closed off against birds, dropped laundry and falls.
- Internal shafts and light wells
- Shafts collect rubbish and nesting birds; a net at the head of the shaft keeps both out and keeps maintenance access simple.

How the installation runs
This is survey-led work. A typical job takes 2 to 6 hours on site once the specification is settled.
Survey and mesh selection
The opening is measured and the intended purpose confirmed, since that decides mesh aperture, twine diameter and polymer.
Anchor layout and fixing
Eye bolts are set at a spacing that keeps the border rope straight between points, into sound masonry or concrete.
Net panel fitting
The panel is offered up, laced to the anchors through the border rope and drawn progressively square.
Tensioning and trimming
Tension is taken up evenly so there are no slack bellies, then surplus is trimmed and edges are finished.
Gap closure check
Corners and service penetrations are checked last, because that is where birds and objects actually get through.

Safety and standards
- Fall-arrest netting specified against EN 1263-1 style performance criteria where arrest duty is required
- Anchorage installed to the fastener manufacturer's stated pull-out capacity
- Bird net and fall net are not interchangeable
- A light bird net will not arrest a person. Where a fall risk exists we specify a rated net and rated anchorage, not the cheaper mesh.
- Corners are the weak point
- Almost every failure we are called to inspect is a corner or a service penetration that was never properly closed.
- Nets have a service life
- Even a good net degrades in sun. It should be inspected yearly and replaced when the twine loses flexibility, not left indefinitely.

Keeping it working
We recommend an inspection every 12 months. Most of it is straightforward enough to do yourself.
- Check for slack and sag
- A net that has developed a belly has lost tension; re-tensioning at the turnbuckles restores it without a new panel.
- Inspect twine condition
- Twine that feels stiff or chalky and snaps rather than stretches has reached the end of its useful life.
- Clear debris and nesting attempts
- Leaves and litter caught in a net add weight and hold moisture against fixings, so the net is cleared at each check.

What drives the price
- Net area
- Area is the base of every quotation, measured on the opening actually being closed rather than the room behind it.
- Mesh size and twine diameter
- A tighter mesh in heavier twine uses considerably more material per square metre than a coarse bird net.
- Polymer and duty rating
- A rated nylon fall-arrest net costs multiples of an HDPE bird net, because it is engineered to do a different job.
- Anchor count and substrate
- Closer anchor spacing, or a substrate that needs chemical anchors, increases both hardware and labour.
- Height and access
- Shaft heads, atriums and upper floors need access equipment and often out-of-hours working, which is priced separately.
We do not publish a rate per square foot, because the same area can differ in price by a factor of two depending on grade, spacing and access. Every quotation states these explicitly.

How long does an installation take?
A cloth hanger is usually done in an hour or two. A single balcony safety net takes two to six hours, and an invisible grill on one or two bays takes most of a working day. Larger jobs such as sports enclosures or building covering run to several days because foundations and scaffold have to be dealt with first.
What warranty do you provide?
Warranty depends on the product, and the figure for each one is stated on its service page rather than promised generically here. In every case the warranty covers materials and workmanship on what we installed, and it assumes the yearly inspection is carried out. We will always tell you what is and is not covered before you commit.
Do you need to visit before giving a price?
For anything structural we do, yes. We can give an indicative range over the phone from your balcony dimensions, but the final price depends on the condition of the wall or slab we are fixing into, the access route for materials, and the exact spacing you need. A survey takes about twenty minutes and means the quotation we give you is the price you pay.
Do you actually cover my area, or only the main city?
We cover the localities listed on our service area pages, and those lists reflect where we genuinely operate rather than everywhere we would like to. If your locality is not listed, call us anyway: we often work just beyond a listed boundary, and we will tell you plainly if a job is outside our reach rather than sending someone unprepared.
Will my apartment association need to approve the work?
In most gated communities and housing societies, yes, because anything fixed to an external wall or balcony counts as a facade alteration. We can supply the drawings and material specification you need to submit. It is worth starting that process early, since approval usually takes longer than the installation itself.
